PRESS RELEASE
Bhatinda, Punjab
April 28, 2014

- BJP and its leaders don't have any answers. They can only make excuses and fun of others, says Mr. Rahul Gandhi
- Countless lives in Punjab are being wasted because of drug abuse; Akali Dal and the BJP solely responsible for the menace
- Congress Party will put an end to drug abuse in the state
- Sikh farmers are being thrown out of Gujarat and here they claim to be your well wisher
- Congress Party wants a partnership between the farmers and the industry

Highlighting the desperation of the BJP to grab power, Congress Vice President Mr. Rahul Gandhi said that the opposition party is resorting to excuses and making fun of others to cover up their divisive and malicious campaign and deflect attention from issues that would expose them.

"The Akali Dal and the BJP say that the drug problem is due to Pakistan. Now, we will deal strongly with what Pakistan does and will do, but what about the responsibility of the state government? Drug abuse is a problem in the state and the opposition would like us and the people to believe that it is not the Akali Dal's mistake. Countless lives are being wasted and people are dying. What is the state government doing?" he asked.

Mr Gandhi reminded the people that he was made fun of when he first raised the issue. "The Congress Party takes the responsibility of eradicating this problem. And we will not pass the blame to others. We will end drug abuse in the state," he said at a massive rally in Bhatinda.

Mr. Gandhi said that these elections are a battle of two ideologies. At one end is the Congress Party that seeks to unite, is inclusive and takes everybody along the path of development and progress. At the other is the BJP, which seeks to concentrate all powers in the hands of one man, bestow privileges to a select few, make people fight among each other and silence the voice of the poor and the weaker sections of the society.

"During the NDA regime, MSP was raised by only Rs. 60. During the tenure of the UPA, the MSP has been raised thirteen times that amount. We waived off farmer loans worth Rs. 70,000 crore. Small businesses are dying here and the youth have no jobs… Gujarat government threw out thousands of Sikhs from the state. They called them outsiders. Here they form an alliance with Akali Dal and pretend to be your well-wisher. In Maharashtra, they beat people from UP and Bihar. And then go to Bihar and UP and claim to be their well-wisher. Wherever they go, they will make excuses," he said.

He thanked the people of Punjab for giving the country a successful Prime Minister and said that being polite, humble and respectful is in the nature of the Congress Party. He added that the Congress Party recognizes the contribution made by the people of India in helping the nation reach where it is today.

"I have never spoken disrespectfully of anyone. We have always spoken with love. The opposition leaders can't speak well for anybody. It is in their nature. They only think about themselves and can only sing praises for themselves. He (Mr Modi) alone established Gujarat. The people had no role to play," he added.

He also spoke about what the Congress Party will do for the youth when it forms the government. "The manufacturing corridors that we have created will generate millions of jobs. We need to have the tag of made in Bhatinda and made in Punjab on the back of our T-shirts… We believe in partnership between the farmers and the industries. That is the way forward," he said.

Building on the rights-based paradigm that the Congress Party has been working on for the last decade, Mr. Gandhi told the people that they will now be given the right to shelter, health and free medicine and pension. He also assured them that the Congress Party will push 70 crore people into the middle class in the next five years and that it will work for the welfare of everyone, especially the poor and the downtrodden.

PRESS RELEASE
Amreli, Gujarat
April 26, 2014

- For Sardar Patel RSS was a poisonous organization that will destroy the idea of India , says Mr. Rahul Gandhi
- Narendra Modi has spent his entire life acting against the views and thoughts of Sardar Patel
- RSS Chief Golwalkar was against giving voting rights to women, said it will be a loss for India.
- BJP leaders can’t sleep at night unless they say lies 5-6 times in a day

Tearing through the web of lies spun by the BJP, Congress Vice President Mr. Rahul Gandhi said that Narendra Modi’s worship of Sardar Patel and his promises of women empowerment are mere gimmicks to fool people during the elections.

"They do not know, nor do they read about Sardar Patel and his thoughts. Modi Ji has given his entire life to RSS. Let me tell him Sardar Patel’s views on RSS. Sardar Patel viewed RSS as a poisonous organization that will destroy the idea of India," he said.

"Mr Modi has spent his entire life acting against the views and thoughts of Sardar Patel. Now, with the elections approaching, he wants to build a statue of him…Former RSS Chief Golwalkar firmly believed that giving voting rights to women was a big mistake. He said it will be a big loss for India. Modi Ji has spent his entire life in this organization. He used state police machinery to spy on a woman. And then they talk of women empowerment," he said at a massive rally in Amreli.

Dismissing BJP's development claims, Mr. Gandhi said that the farmers, labourers, SC/ST/OBC, minorities and the weaker sections continue to languish in Gujarat.

"BJP leaders can’t sleep at night, unless they tell 5-6 lies in a day. He claims he made Gujarat. He would like us to believe that for 60 years the people of Gujarat did nothing. They sat idle and the state was stagnant. Then Modi Ji came to power, the state was transformed and it was shining. The sweat and blood of the people of Gujarat means nothing to them," Mr Gandhi said.

He said Mr Modi spoke about milk revolution as if women had no role to play in it. "He alone milked lakhs of cows in Gujarat. Now he wants the country to make him the chowkidaar and give him the keys of the country. You all are well aware, what kind of chowkidaari he has done here," Mr Gandhi said.

He added that the so-called Gujarat model of development is not only lopsided but is dangerous for the country for it led to welfare and progress of only few industrialist friends of Gujarat government.

"Take the resources, money, land and power of the poor and give it to a few industrialist friends – this is their model. And then market this model using the money from these industrialists during the elections. Get on the stage and say lies after lies. The Congress Party model is different. We give to the people their due. Imagine, the amount of money we spent on MNREGA, they gave more than that to one industrialist," he said.

Building on the rights-based paradigm that the Congress Party has been working on for the last decade, Mr. Gandhi told the people that they will now be given the right to shelter, health and free medicine and pension.

"The dream you had for the past 60 years will be a reality on June 2nd. Many people from the state fought for and sacrificed their life for this dream. "TDP and BJP created hurdles in the formation of Telangana. TRS was missing when we were drafting the bill for creation of Telangana. TRS reneges on its promises. We have seen it. They promised that they will merge with the Congress Party. Their leaders met me and hugged me and said they are with us. A few hours later, they announced they are not with the Congress Party. PRESS RELEASE
Hargaon, Uttar Pradesh
April 24, 2014

BJP, SP· & BSP have small dreams; they are busy making people fight among each other so that there are no real questions on the state's progress, says Mr. Rahul Gandhi In Maharashtra, the BJP and its allies beat people from UP, and then they say they want to help you.

The day the people of UP stand united, it will be the number one state.

Accusing the opposition of playing divisive politics and keeping the state under-developed, Congress Vice President Mr. Rahul Gandhi asked the people of Uttar Pradesh to unite and vote for the Congress Party to take the state forward.

"The BSP, SP and the BJP have small dreams. They can't take the state forward… Within UP, the youth has been neglected and they have gone astray. They are looking for jobs. They go to Maharashtra, a Congress governed state, for better opportunities. In UP, they have made Hindus and Muslims fight six months before the elections, so that there are no real questions on progress and development...the Congress Party takes everybody along. No matter what your religion is, we will take the state forward," he said at a massive rally in Hargaon.

Mr. Gandhi also cautioned the people against the BJP, which not only plays in the hands of a few industrialists, but is also making fake promises to the people of Uttar Pradesh. "Who beats you up in Maharashtra? BJP and its ally, Shiv Sena. And then they say that they want to help you…The ideology of the BJP is to make people fight among each other, and ensure that only a few industrialists get the benefits of progress. They have nothing to offer to the poor, the farmers, the backward castes and the weaker sections of the society," he said.

Mr. Gandhi said that the efforts of the Congress Party over the last decade have helped pull 15 crore people out of the poverty line and that the Party has performed much better on infrastructure creation in comparison to the NDA government. Building on the rights-based paradigm that the Congress Party has been working on for the last decade, he told the people that they will now be given the right to shelter, health and free medicine and pension. He also assured them that the Congress Party will push 70 crore people into the middle class in the next five years.

PRESS RELEASE
Ramnathapuram, Tamil Nadu
April 21, 2014

- Our fight is to form a Congress government at the centre as well as in the state, says Mr. Rahul Gandhi
- Ensure that a pro-poor and secular government is formed in the centre
- BJP leaders only make tall claims, fail to offer a roadmap on how they plan to achieve them
- BJP stopped passage of anti-corruption bills and the women reservation bill.

Addressing a massive rally in Tamil Nadu today, Congress Vice President Mr. Rahul Gandhi said that the fight of the Congress Party in the state is not just limited to the LokSabha elections, but is geared towards achieving the larger objective of forming a Congress government in the state.

"After a very long time, we are fighting on our own in the state. I am proud to see our workers all charged up and ready to fight the elections under the banner of the Congress Party. Now we don’t have to compromise. And we will fight to not only win these elections, but form a Congress government in the state in the times to come," he said.

Mr. Gandhi said that the Congress Party drew inspiration from the great Tamil leader, K Kamraj, for many of its programmes and that the people of the state should vote for a party that believes in uniting India and working for the poor.

"This is a LokSabha election and the regional parties from Tamil Nadu are not going to be in a position to form the government in Delhi. You must ensure that a pro-poor and secular government is formed. We don’t need a government that promotes hatred and anger. We don’t need a government that makes Hindus fight Muslims. We don’t need a government that imposes ideas from one state on to another," he said.

Mr. Gandhi accused the BJP of misleading the people of the country and failing to offer any roadmap to achieve what they are promising.

"BJP leaders make big speeches and tall claims, but they do not offer any roadmap on how they plan to do it. They go everywhere and talk about corruption. But look at their manifesto. It only says that they will tackle it, they haven’t written anything on how they will do it. We passed RTI and Lok Pal, despite their opposition. We wanted to pass five more anti-graft legislations but they did not let the parliament function. If the BJP or its leaders were really serious about tackling corruption, why didn’t they support these bills? The women reservation bill faced the same opposition," he said.

Building on the rights-based paradigm that the Congress Party has been working on for the last decade, Mr. Gandhi told the people that they will now be given the right to shelter, health and free medicine and pension. He also assured them that the Congress Party will push 70 crore people into the middle class in the next five years. He also told those gathered that the Congress Party will create a separate ministry for fishing, as promised in the manifesto and is also committed towards resolving the issues fishermen have with Sri Lankan navy.

- But for Congress party’s commitment, Telangana would not have been formed, says Mr. Rahul Gandhi
- Congress Party will now fulfil the promises made to the people of Telangana & Seemandhra
- TDP & BJP created hurdles in the formation of Telangana
- TRS and its leaders only want power

Underscoring the contribution of the Congress Party in realizing the long standing demand of the people of Telangana for a separate state, Congress Vice President Mr. Rahul Gandhi assured the people of the two states that the Congress Party will fulfil their dreams and bring development to the region.

“The dream you had for the past 60 years will be a reality on June 2nd. Many people from the state fought for and sacrificed their life for this dream. Without the Congress Party, this dream would not have materialized. We heard your voice, we tried to build consensus, followed the democratic process and as a result, in a few days a new state of Telangana will be formed. We have made promises to the people of Telangana and Seemandhra and the Congress Party will fulfil all the promises made... the truth is, without Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Telangana would not have been formed," he said at a massive rally in Mahbubnagar.

Exposing the inability of other parties to address the needs and aspirations of the people of Telangana, Mr. Gandhi asked the people to support the Congress Party for it is the only party that will cater to their growth and development in a secular and inclusive manner. “TDP and BJP created hurdles in the formation of Telangana. TRS was missing when we were drafting the bill for creation of Telangana. TRS makes promises but fails to follow through. They promised that they will merge with the Congress Party, they did not fulfil it. They said that there will be a dalit CM for the state, they have forgotten about it. Soon, they will forget all other promises made to you. TRS and TRS leaders only want power... when the Congress Party forms the government here it will bring development and progress to the state and its people," he said.

Mr. Gandhi also cautioned the people against the divisive politics of the BJP and said that the opposition party will be detrimental for the state and the country. He also elaborated on the measures that the Congress Party will take for the people and the youth of the state, such as, a 4000 MW power plant, 10-year tax holiday for the backward regions of the state and manufacturing corridors, among other things.

“We will ensure that every section of the society progresses. We will take everybody along the path of development... this will be a new state and you have to decide whether you want to dream small or big. If you want to dream big and change your life, then vote for the Congress Party," he said.

Building on the rights-based paradigm that the Congress Party has been working on for the last decade, Mr. Gandhi told the people that they will now be given the right to shelter, health and free medicine and pension. He added that the pro-poor polices of the Congress led UPA government had pulled 15 crore people out of poverty line in the last ten years.
