As the patron of several development organizations and community based organizations, promotes empowerment of the disadvantaged, gender equity, and social development. Has been a promoter of Oriya culture mainly the folk dance, and local customs that build social capital. As the chairman of All India Chhatra Sangharsh Vahini, Fought for the social and democratic rights of students.

Lead a 4000 km. padyatra and cycle yatras to awake the masses throughout the states of Orissa , Chhattisgarh , Madhya Pradesh on issues concerning the youth, farmers, tribals, unemployment, social unrest, enviromnment and wasteland management. Leading role played in the successful distribution of land to landless in Bodh Gaya. During 1985 famine in Kalahandi highlighted the issues in the Assembly, brought the facts to national and international attention and fought for their alleviation. Fighting for the life and culture of Dongaria tribe, on the verge of extinction, in the Niyamgiri hills of Kalahandi for last 5 years. Also for the environmental and livelihood security in the face of displacemen.
